Implant strategies for feedlot cattle can be aggressive or conservative. Aggressive strategies are focussed solely on putting on the maximum weight in a short time and at the least cost. Animals on these programs are pushed hard and often yield carcasses which have lower quality grade. Conservative strategies are those which may push cattle less hard and may require a few more days on feed but produce groups of cattle which on average have higher quality grades. Choice of programs is based partly on the targeted days on feed, projected grade / price spreads, and the genetic potential of the cattle.
