BACKGROUNDING
Cattle which are weaned onto pasture and grown at a slower rate for a period of time before being put into feedlots can benefit from RALGRO due to increased feed efficiency. Any animals which are on pasture of sufficient quality to produce a rate of gain of over 1 lb/day can use RALGRO to make better use of the pasture. Implanted animals turn grass into muscle more efficiently. This can provide one of several advantages to producers.
- greater carrying capacity of pasture
- fewer days to entry to feedlot
- greater drought resistance of pasture due to less grazing pressure
Typically animals are implanted with RALGRO at the beginning of the backgrounding period.
Stockers should only be implanted if their
rate of
gain
is more than 1 lb/day
