A
little practice makes getting the implant in the right place easy.
- Good restraint
makes the job much easier - A head gate or calf table makes proper implant
placement a snap and helps the job go faster.
- Clean the ear
to prevent infection - Scrape off debris with a stiff brush or knife.
- Wash and disinfect if badly soiled.
- Disinfect the
needle between calves - Bacteria passed from calf to calf cause abscesses
and may make implants ineffective.
- Use sharp needles
- Dull needles make the job harder and slower. They also cause more
damage while implanting and can increase the chance of infection or
scarring.
The
implant site is under the skin
on the back side of the ear.

Insert
full length of the needle under the skin toward the intended site of the
implant. Squeeze the trigger to deliver a full dose of RALGRO and withdraw
the needle as the trigger is being depressed.
